Real estate professionals must complete 22.5 hours of continuing education every two years to keep their licenses active.

Both salespersons and brokers must complete the full 22.5-hour requirement. As of July 1, 2021, all brokers — including those previously exempt — must now satisfy CE requirements. New York attorneys admitted to the State Bar are the only group exempt from CE. 

No. Licensees may not renew early to avoid the education obligation. All 22.5 hours must be completed before your license expiration date.

Renewal periods are every two years from the date printed on the license. Licensees are eligible to renew up to three months prior to the expiration date.

There is no commutative final exams in our CE courses, however the courses include quizzes throughout to reinforce key concepts. After passing the last module quiz you will be issued a certificate of completion.

You'll receive a certificate of completion for each course. When completing your online renewal application through your eAccessNY account, you will be asked whether you have completed the required continuing education. Students who answer yes will have their renewal processed, though they may be randomly audited and required to submit their certificates. Retain all certificates for your records.

Our New York Fair Housing and Anti-Discrimination course and New York Ethics and Professional Standards course were designed to satisfy the Fair Housing and Code of Ethics training requirements established by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). However, acceptance of these courses is determined by your local board or association of REALTORS®. Students are responsible for confirming acceptance with their local association and providing proof of course completion.

Licensees renewing for the first time with a license expiration date on or after September 21, 2022 must complete 12.5 mandatory hours and 10 elective hours for a total of 22.5 hours. All courses in our package satisfy both first-time and subsequent renewal requirements. 

Here are the steps you need to take to renew your real estate license through eAccessNY:

  1.  Log in to your eAccessNY account and click on "List of Licenses (Access your license here)". Then click on the license you would like to renew.

  2. Click on "Renew License" and then click "Next Step" to renew the license.

  3. Answer the questions and click "Next Step" to continue.

  4. Affirm the application by checking the "I Agree" box and click "Next Step" to continue.

  5. Enter your credit card details and click "Submit" (only click the button once) to submit your payment.

  6. You will be redirected to a "Confirmation" page, which indicates that your renewal has been submitted. You should print this page for your records.

Once you submit your renewal application, the Department of State will review your application to make sure it is complete and meets the qualifications for renewal

If you fail to renew your NY real estate license on-time, your license will be considered expired and you will not be able to resume practicing real estate until your license is reinstated.
The NY Department of State does not offer a grace period for renewals.
You will have up to two years after your license expiration date to renew your license.

If you fail to renew your license within 2 years after your license expiration date, you will have to retake (and pass) the NY state licensing exam, apply for a new real estate license, and pay the license application fee.
You will also have to submit a copy of your expired license/pocket card, or your Certificate of Completion from when you originally completed the 77-hour NY real estate salespersons course.

It costs $65 to renew your NY real estate salespersons license.
