Washington Real Estate Continuing Education Licensing FAQs

Washington requires 30 hours of continuing education every two years for your second and all subsequent license renewals. This must include a 3-hour Core course and a 3-hour Fair Housing course, plus 24 hours of DOL-approved electives.

All active Washington real estate brokers and managing brokers, for every renewal after their first. (First-time renewals have a separate 90-hour post-licensing requirement.)

Your renewal date is set two years from your original license issue date and repeats every two years after that — Washington doesn't use a fixed calendar renewal date.

No. At least 15 hours must be completed within 24 months of your renewal date, but you can carry forward up to 15 additional hours from courses completed within the prior 48 months, as long as they haven't already been used for a previous renewal.

If you miss your renewal date, you may not be able to renew your active license, and it can move into a canceled status until you complete reinstatement requirements.

These courses do not have comprehensive final exams. Instead, students complete shorter quizzes throughout each course. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass each quiz and continue through the course, with unlimited attempts available to achieve a passing score.
